"Verso l'alto!" -Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati
Our LifeTeen and Edge program at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church is open to junior high and high school students. We meet during the school year on Wednesdays from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. in St. John Hall. Please check our Announcements page for holiday and summer schedules.
A typical youth night consists of an opening prayer and blessing of food, shared meal, and icebreakers followed by faith formation classes using the LifeTeen and Edge curriculum. Our classes are taught by our amazing staff of volunteer core members. Students are invited to participate in small group activities as well as trivia games and evenings set aside for Adoration and Confession.
Part of our student's faith formation is encouraging our teens to live their faith. We participate in the annual March for Life in Washington D.C., hold supply drives for the Wiregrass Emergency Pregnancy Services center (WEPS), coordinate food drives, volunteer at our Knights of Columbus fish fries, and help with our annual Box of Joy program. Our students also have had opportunities to serve as greeters at the annual WEPS banquet where they have gotten to meet abortion survivor, Gianna Jessen as well as Abby Johnson, author of the book and movie "Unplanned". These are just a few of the projects and service our teens are involved in that give them the opportunity to be "the hands and feet of Christ".
Along with faith formation classes and service projects, our teens are invited to attend the annual Archdiocesan Catholic Youth Conference (ACYC) held in Orange Beach, AL. This conference serves as our Confirmation retreat as well. During ACYC, teens get to meet with other Catholic teens from across the Archdiocese of Mobile and spend a weekend in fellowship and prayer. The students also get to attend daily Mass, attend Adoration, go to Confession, and spend some quality time with Archbishop Rodi and our amazing seminarians. ACYC is always one of our student's favorite events.
Our teens stay active year round. In addition to all of our activities during the school year, teens also have the opportunity to attend a Catholic summer camp. Our Edge (junior high) students attend Camp Hidden Lake in Dahlonega, GA while our LifeTeen (high school) students attend Camp Covecrest in Tiger, GA. Both camps offer a week of food, fun, and fellowship that our students love.
Whether you're new to the area or back for a new military assignment, we hope your teens will join our vibrant and ever-growing youth program.
